15 Semester Credit Hours; Curriculum: 0308

This 15-credit hour certificate is designed for students interested in office employment as well as for those who need to upgrade their knowledge of current office technology. The program emphasizes computer applications skills and basic office skills. Completion of this certificate can lead to entry level administrative support positions in any industry. Additionally, courses in this certificate align with the skill sets needed in preparing for Microsoft Office Certification.

Prior to pursing this certificate, it is recommended that the student has completed CAB 102 and CAB 106 or has a minimum of 40 wpm keyboarding skills.

Office Assistant Certificate Pathway

The following Pathway is recommended for students pursuing the Office Assistant Certificate. This certificate cannot be completed in one semester as some courses are offered in fall semester only, and others in spring semester only.

Program Learning Outcomes

  1. Use and optimize the Windows environment.
  2. Perform basic office functions.
  3. Use current and emerging word processing technologies to produce organizational documents and presentation materials.
  4. Perform the current speed and accuracy requirements for keyboarding in a business environment.
  5. Compose business correspondence and enhance a presentation with multimedia.
  6. Integrate Visio drawings with other programs, such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint.
  7. Develop communication skills, including listening, as they relate to various business situations.
  8. Use critical thinking skills to solve business problems.
