Program Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate personal growth in self and others by practicing positive living, optimism, self-examination and willingness to change.
- Identify the wide variety of problems presented by individuals and groups in contemporary society.
- Explain the interrelated effects of addictions, poverty, mental and physical illness, and homelessness on family dynamics and intimate relationships in an integrated approach to addressing issues of family and intimate partner violence, child abuse and neglect.
- Apply techniques as a member of a team in providing services, designing programs, and working collaboratively among agencies and organizations for the benefit of clients and the community.
- Employ best practices in pursing continuing education, lifelong learning and proactive self care.
- Demonstrate clinical skills of screening, assessment, treatment planning, termination and referral, including documentation and record management.
- Explain the principles and processes of human physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and social development, including basic abnormal psychology and effects of substance use on growth and development.
- Integrate knowledge of cultural diversity and responsive approaches when providing counseling to individuals, groups, and families.
- Through mastery of all required human services program and general education courses, be qualified to obtain a entry level position in a residential day programs, shelters, geriatric centers, and respite care.
- Upon completion of the A.A.S. degree in human services and providing documentation of all required observation hours and practical experience, graduates will be eligible to work in a human services setting.
